Presidents's Message

What a hot summer we have had! I hope you were all able to stay reasonably cool, and busy, and in good spirits! We have an exciting year ahead and I am eager to begin. I know that change can sometimes be difficult but somehow we bounce back—therefore I know you will all react positively to this latest one—the change in our meeting place. We struggled most of last year with the parking problems at the Beatitudes Campus and from what I have been told, it will be some time before that situation changes. We have been so fortunate to have the support of Beatitudes Church, (using their parking lot for our Artists Studio Cleanout last year) and they have come to our rescue once again by allowing us to use the church facility without charge.

The meeting room (at least until the end of the year) will now be The Britt Chapel. It is in the one-story building just to the east of the main church. Located on the SOUTHEAST corner of 7th Ave and Glendale, there is plenty of parking and NO construction!

Your Board of Directors has been busy most of the summer making plans for the coming year. Our show chairman, Alice Okoneski and BetteLou Tobin have worked tirelessly planning and organizing our upcoming show. Please give them your appreciation by sending your entries in a timely manner. Everyone eligible should participate. Enter your best work, properly framed and it will be a smash!

Okay everybody _ no excuses! Show up at our first meeting of the year and pick up your brand spanking new directories. They are expensive to mail so help defray expenses by showing up to pick yours up in person. We will have social hour promptly at 6:30 _ this should be fun since we haven't seen each other for a long time _ lots to talk about! See you there!

Phoenix Artists Guild Website

Yolanda has the website up and it is beautiful. Visit URL http://ymmartin.com/pag for a preview.

Visitors to the web site will be able to click on the member's name and that will take them to a page showing the Member's photo, a self description of them as an artist, and what medium they work in, and a sample of their art work.

Julie Frye and Elaine Waters

Will combine their considerable talents to present a critique for us.

Julie Frye

Julie is a long-time resident of Phoenix, attended Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College graduating with a major in Fine Art in 1956. Marriage and two children prevented further art study until 1963 when she attended classes at Kachina School of Art, where she studied with mural and portrait master, Jay Datus. After three years, she was hired as an instructor for the correspondence course of fine art painting, written by Mr. Datus, a position held for 13 years. Additional classes were taught at various senior centers throughout the Valley continuing until May, 1997 when she retired from teaching in order to devote more time to her own painting and to work on her growing fabric-painting business.

Past president of the Valley Artist League and the Phoenix Artist Guild, she has been active in the art scene in the Valley for many years. Numerous awards and purchase prizes have spanned the years, and her work is featured in collections in Virginia, California and Maryland, and in Europe.

An avid musician, Julie is active in the Scottsdale Sweet Adelines Chorus. An overview of currently available paintings, decorative art and unique wearable art and weightless jewelry is viewable on the web at: www.noteworthyarts.com

Elaine Waters:

Elaine was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. She attended Washington State University for two years, then completed her studies at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in 1962. She taught the primary grades in Anchorage and Kirkland, Washington before marrying Bobby Waters in Anchorage. Raising four children, the family moved to Phoenix in 1981. After moving to Phoenix, she continued her art studies and began teaching oil painting in the late 1980.

Elaine is a juried member of Arizona Artists Guild and Arizona Art Alliance, and is also a member of Phoenix Artists Guild, Scottsdale

Artists League, and Peoria Fine Arts Association. She teaches oil painting in the Phoenix area and throughly enjoys helping her art students to become "better" artists.

Her landscape, floral and still life paintings reflect her love for color with a touch of nostalgia. Elaine's paintings have been juried into many Arizona exhibits and have received numerous awards.

"Through my paintings, I can share my enjoyment of the world around me."

Elaine Waters.

Critiques will start at 7:00

(One painting apiece, please).

ARE YOU A JURIED MEMBER OF THE ARIZONA ART ALLIANCE?

If you belong to PAG you are eligible to apply to become an individual juried member of the Arizona Art Alliance. You must become a juried member to participate in Arizona Art Alliance sponsored shows. Just fill out an application form and submit it with high quality 4"x 5" photos of your three best art pieces, along with a $5.00 entry fee and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Arizona Art Alliance

6339 E. Greenway, #012-264

Scottsdale, AZ 85254 attn: Jury Committee.

Contact Larry Andrews for an application form.

APPLY NOW

Every few months the Alliance jury meets to review jury applications. The next jury deadline is October 1. The best thing about this jury process is that you only have to do it once-not for every show. However, if you wish to show 2D (paintings), 3D work and/or photography in a show, then you would need to be juried in each of these mediums separately. Your jury status is retained as long as you continue your membership with PAG or one of the other 16 member art organizations.

Make your check out to PAG.
